Your tablet may be a lot of things — huge, powerful, artificially intelligent — but can it watch Shrek? A Shrek, mind you, that’s been blown up to 120in and watched in the garden with the whole family? Yeah, we didn’t think so. But Blackview’s new Active 12 Pro 5G rugged tablet can, among many other things.
One of those is the ability to survive a 12m drop and live to tell the tale, or withstand 2.2 tons of pressure before cracking. Or at least, that’s what Blackview says about it. Whether it can actually do all that on top of being a tablet remains to be seen, but for the fifteen-or-so-thousand it costs to pick this up, it might be worth the risk.
Now that’s plenty rugged
The Blackview Active 12 Pro isn’t just capable of watching Shrek in 1080p, projected to 120in out in the garden. If Blackview is serious about the 30,000mAh battery spec that the 12 Pro totes, it’ll manage the entire Shrek quadrilogy (roughly six whole hours) before it starts to whine for the 120W charger. That’s pretty impressive, and we haven’t even gotten to the claims of a military-grade frame.
Yup, Blackview reckons the 12 Pro is MIL-STD-810H certified, packing an IronShell body, IP69 rating, and 400-lumen light that’ll make this ideal for camping. If there’s a pretty bird out in the wilderness, the 108MP “AI Camera” fixed to the rear might be able to help or, if you’re confident about your skills, there’s a 50MP selfie cam.

If you’re plan is to use the Active 12 Pro as a tablet and not a way to blind incoming predators, you’ll be happy with the regular tablet specs Blackview went with. Mediatek’s Dimensity 7300 SoC runs the show, with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage available — accessed through an 11in 90Hz FHD+ display. But ehre can you get one?
What we found were the 12/256GB and 16GB/1TB listings on AliExpress, with an asking price of R9,800 and R10,600, respectively. It honestly sounds too good a deal, even after you drop another R5,000 to get it into the country. We reached out to Blackview’s local arm to determine if this beast is headed here in any official capacity, but have yet to hear back. If that changes, we’ll update this article accordingly.
