Back in March, Lunar Outpost didn’t quite put man on the Moon, but it did manage to successfully land the Mobile Autonomous Prospecting Platform (MAPP) rover on Earth’s closest relative (with the help of the Athena Lander from Intuitive Machines), becoming the first commercial vehicle to achieve the feat. As cool as that is, is it as cool as Lego developing a Lunar Outpost Technic set with three Moon rovers in it?
One small brick for man…
Admittedly, no, but without any real chance of getting there ourselves, this Lego toy set made for ‘children’ will have to do. The Lunar Outpost Moon Rover Space Vehicle set packs in 1,082 pieces and is already available for purchase locally for R2,000 from Great Yellow Brick.
“Inspired by real-life Lunar Outpost vehicles enabling humanity’s return to the Moon, this LEGO Technic Lunar Outpost Moon Rover Space Vehicle comes with a Moon rover, mining rover and MAPP rover to inspire endless journeys of exploration.”

You’ll spend most of your time (and most of those 1,082 pieces) building the centrepiece of the set – the Moon rover – inside of which you’ll also find the far smaller mining and MAPP rover housed, both of which are based on real-life Lunar Outpost designs, even if Lego doesn’t want to throw the ‘Eagle‘ name around.
Like all Technic sets, this one is meant to actually be functional rather than just a conversation-starter for people to dramatically gasp when they ask what you paid for it. It’s not quite up for shifting regolith, but it’s more than capable of handling the little plastic balls masquerading as Moon rocks. It’s also got a proper rocket suspension system, four-wheel steering that actually works, “deployable solar panels”, and a rotating arm.
