Any parent will tell you that a late-night, barefoot encounter with a Lego brick is one of the most painful things you can experience. You’ll run significantly less risk of nocturnal screaming (and a possible trip to Casualty) if you’re wearing shoes. Nikes, for preference.
That’s if you take the news of the yellow brick company and the footwear manufacturer partnering up a little too seriously. Nike and Lego have signed a multi-year deal that will see each company releasing products that reference the other, from brick-themed shoes to shoe-themed bricks.

The first of the buildable products is the Nike Dunk x set, set for launch from 1 July this year. Generally, Lego releases are globally timed, so we should also see these on the same date locally, but for now, they don’t appear on the local official outlet’s website. Expect pricing of R2,000 (to tie up to the $100 international price) when the 1,180-piece display build lands on shelves.
For those more into movement than construction, the Nike Air Max Dn x Lego Collection is scheduled to launch here soon. Themed around the iconic buildable toy and featuring the various shades the Danish company has made famous with its sets, they’ll retail for R2,900 when they launch from 1 August this year. These are aimed at “older kids” so don’t be too miffed if you can’t find them in adult sizes.
Other partnered releases and activations, the latter mostly scheduled overseas at present, are expected in the months to come as a result of Nike’s new deal. It’s not the first time a shoe manufacturer has crossed paths with the buildable toy company, but this one promises to be memorable. And, perhaps, a little easier to get hold of.
