Hisense has launched the newest iteration of its RGB miniLED backlit televisions, and it’s the biggest one yet. The 116UX, as its name suggests, is a 116in behemoth. The TV was very recently launched in Tanzania, and will appear in South Africa’s market soon.
Everything’s bigger with Hisense’s miniLED
It’s been an eventful year for miniLED, with the technology seeing more widespread adoption in flagship TVs. According to the company, Hisense is bringing the tech to large-screen televisions with the 116UX, the first of its kind. It runs on a Hi-View Engine X chip, which powers features like AI-powered image processing, advanced light and colour coordination, and better colour reproduction, contrast, and energy efficiency for premium TVs.
The tech company launched the device in Tanzania first, and has pencilled in a South African release later this year. Details on the exact date and pricing are scant, but Hisense said that the device will be produced locally once it launches here. If you want a ballpark estimate for how much you need to put away to earn this bad boy, look at the smaller 110UX, which generally goes for an eye-watering R300,000.
Hisense also notes the 116UX’s eco-friendliness, with a claimed energy efficiency that is 20% lower than traditional premium models. Oddly, the company points to certification by colour and sound specialists Pantone and Dolby Vision. Not exactly the leading voices in the world of environmentally sustainable tech.
The 116UX showcases Hisense’s desire to conquer the African and Middle Eastern markets, as the company aims to become the leading home appliance brand in both regions by 2027. The brand is clearly confident in its ability to meet such a short timeline, buoyed by its position as the number one large-screen TV provider in 2024, but everything else remains to be seen.
