Samsung’s got a Mobile World Congress event kicking off next week, with smartwatches in the spotlight. One of those is the Galaxy Watch Active 4, a device that has seemingly been revealed (almost totally) before the 28 June event.
But that’s nothing unusual for Samsung. Details have been turning up for some time now, so this latest batch just adds to the growing pile of what we know. Here’s what that consists of (so far).
Galaxy Watch Active 4 looks like a watch
Perhaps the most striking thing about this leak is just how much Samsung’s action-focused wearable looks like a watch rather than a… you know, smartwatch. The lines are crisp and clean, there’s no rotating bezel in place and the two physical buttons suggest that most of your navigation will be done using the edge-to-edge touchscreen display.
The company does say its “reimagining smartwatches“. This design change (witness the bulk of the Galaxy Watch 3) could be what they’re referring to, though the new Google-partnered marriage of Tizen and Android Wear (apparently just called ‘Wear’) is likely the other part of the re-imagination.
Other details revealed include the colour schemes — you can see them in the header image but Black, Green, Silver and Gold (though some reports Samsung’s Rose Gold is the actual shade for the latter) are your colour options for the Galaxy Watch Active 4. 44mm and 40mm sizes are reportedly on the way, with better batteries (bolstered by that new OS, it’s said). We’ll know more when Samsung does the official reveal — though there’s still four days left for someone to let all the cats of the their bags.
