Now probably isn’t the best time to invest in a dehumidifier. Or is it precisely for that reason that you should grab one — before the hot weather rolls around? That might be why LG has decided to bring its first dedicated range of dehumidifiers to SA, with two new Dual Inverter models apparently “designed specifically” for the South African home.
Yeah, right. Take that last statement with a pinch of salt, seeing as both models have been available elsewhere for a while. Whatever. Until we’re able to put LG’s efforts to the test, we can’t speak to their competency. They’ll probably be decent, considering the spec sheets (and prices) that the so-called PuriCare range is lugging around.

“South African consumers, especially those living in coastal areas, have been looking for effective ways to manage humidity and improve indoor comfort. That’s why LG has expanded its home appliance offering with our new dehumidifier lineup,” said eco solutions sales head Andries Bekker.
The grand or so difference between the two PuriCare models has to do with volume. The cheaper of the two tops out at 28L for R8,000, while the other bumps that up to 34L for R9,000. There’s no sugarcoating it — that’s a high price, especially with Saffas in mind. If they can actually do what LG says, it may just be worth it.

Both models use LG’s Dual Inverter Compressor, adjusting to the room’s actual humidity and going from there. It’s said to cut down power use and make the buggers that much quieter, sitting at a comfy 34dB. The smaller 28L model can suck in the equivalent of 27.5L of water a day (or 110 250mL bottles of water). There’s no bottle measurement for the 34L product, which is intended for larger spaces.
They’re also fitted with a sterilising ioniser and UVnano UV-LED technology to keep the fans clean. They’ll hook up to LG’s app for convenient monitoring and even support a drain hose so you can skip manual emptying. Shoe-drying and closet accessories are also included, along with a set of wheels to keep the units mobile.
