There’s always a new Samsung Galaxy wearable waiting in the wings. The trick is waiting for someone to spill their guts about whatever’s in the pipeline. Rumours of a Galaxy Fit 4 have floated around for a while, but a fresh leak suggests the company has something new on the horizon. We’re talking true new, and not just a sequel.
There’s a Galaxy watch for everyone
Codenamed “Galaxy Aero”, SamMobile discovered references to the new wearable inside the Galaxy Wearable app. Interestingly, the codebase makes mention of “galaxy_rtos_watch.” That likely means the watch is skipping the Wear OS that powers the Galaxy Watch, and instead opting for the more lightweight Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) you’d find on the Fit series. This may well fill the gap between the Galaxy Watch and Fit series.
There’s no telling which bits the device will borrow from the rest of the family. But with RTOS at the forefront, you can expect a cheaper price tag than even the Galaxy Watch FE, though higher than the Fit 3 — or Fit 4, depending on what comes first. The Galaxy Fit 3 currently demands a fee of around R1,300 to live on your wrist.
‘Til Samsung is ready to announce the wearable, speculation over the specs it’ll pack is rife. It’ll likely feature a decent battery life (week-long, if the Fit is any indication) and all the usual sensors on most smartwatches, like a heart rate monitor, gyroscope, and accelerometer. Don’t expect much in the way of a powerful processor, either.
