AMD is expected to announce another price increase for its GPUs later this year, according to reports. The event, which remains unconfirmed, isn’t remotely out of the question. Recent trends suggest that every bit of tech that includes a graphics processing unit or RAM will increase in price if they haven’t already.
Many companies have already announced their increases, but the so-called RAMpocalypse could last for longer than just 2026. We may see further pricing announcements from companies that have already jacked up retail costs. For now, though, the next in line may be AMD.
AMD, what’s next?
Specifics of the GPU maker’s plans, according to Gazlog, could see its GPUs (and VRAM kits) go up by as much as 15%. There’s no specific timeline, but it should happen before year-end. The report reckons that the official increase might take place as soon as July 2026. However, the report points out that AMD’s plans are not yet official. Even so, given the trend everyone else in the industry is following, and the chip shortage, it’s a fairly easy guess to make.
The report also says that Nvidia currently has no known plans for a similar increase. The last time the chip-maker raised costs was in May this year. Given how much money the company is making from the AI boom, it can probably afford to eat costs for its consumer lineup. That would leave Nvidia with just a product shortage to deal with (that the company is helping to cause).
The current semiconductor shortage, again according to Gazlog, could last until 2028. If an AMD GPU is on your wishlist, it’s either a plan to purchase it now or resign yourself to waiting a couple more years before that case upgrade is possible.
