There’s a new Lego Lord of the Rings set in town, meaning to draw the eye of just about anyone who walks by, owing to the 8,278 bricks that’ll need to be assembled. The set captures the iconic Minas Tirith in brick form, as seen in the fantastic Lord of the Rings trilogy. It’s set to arrive this June with a whopping R13,000 price tag.
A Lego set is never late…
While the Tower of Guard presents an appropriate face from the front, there’s a bit more opportunity for play here than we expected. Flip Minas Tirith around, and you’ll find the Throne Room interior has been built with minifigures in mind, capturing the grandeur of Minas Tirith. The entire set measures 59cm high, 62cm wide, and 37cm deep.
Speaking of minifigures, the 8,278-strong set includes ten. Gandalf the White, Faramir, Denethor (along with his tomatos), Peregrin Took, Aragorn as the king, Arwen, and four Soldiers of Gondor. The lack of a Merry Brandybuck figure is a little disappointing, especially seeing as we got four nameless soldiers. There’s also a bunch of accessories — mostly swords, helmets, and shields, but there’s also a crown for the new king.

While this is the largest Lord of the Rings set out, it hasn’t even cracked Lego’s all-time top three. The Eiffel Tower, Titanic, and Death Star sets all still beat it, size-wise. The set celebrates the 25th anniversary of Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy in spectacular fashion. Too bad we’ll likely never get one.
If you do have a spare R13,000 lying around, the set will release sometime this June in South Africa. You’ll find it at Great Yellow Brick, South Africa’s Lego Certified Store. You may want to make use of the site’s little notification bell to be warned when the set hits shelves. We don’t see this one sticking around for very long.
