Lego is capable of some realistic builds, particularly if you use enough pieces. While the Mercedes AMG-F1 got all the attention last year, this year it’s all about Ferrari. Well, Ferrari F1 helmets, at any rate.
The Danish brick company has announced pre-orders for its new Lego Editions Scuderia Ferrari HP helmet builds, with Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc versions available. Whichever you pick, the price tag is an almost reasonable R1,800. The downside? You’ll have to wait till May before you can build it.
Race to the Lego finish
Unlike a life-sized F1 car, these helmet builds use a much more manageable set of pieces. Hamilton’s dome defender uses 884 bricks, while Leclerc’s brain bucket uses 886. That’s just a two-point difference. At present, Leclerc is three points ahead of Hamilton in the standings, so this tracks.
Don’t get too excited by the visuals above, though. Lego made life-sized versions of its new Ferrari F1 helmets to promote its upcoming releases. These versions stand around 26cm tall and weigh roughly three kilograms apiece. The versions you’ll pay R1,800 for are a little smaller and, as mentioned, use less than a third of the pieces.

Whether you’re building Hamilton’s or Leclerc’s helmet at home, they’ll be roughly the same size. 18 x 13 x 11cm, in fact. Small enough to fit on a shelf, with enough space left over for the stand. The stand features the Ferrari and HP emblems (the helmets themselves include the official sponsor logos everywhere), plus space for a driver minifigure.
And, if you grab one of each, you and someone else can race to see who can build it the fastest. It’s just like Formula One. But without the cars. Or the fumes. Or the tracks. But the potential for loud disagreement when the wrong person finishes first is the same.
