Samsung’s Galaxy Z TriFold is heading to more countries outside South Korea, which means we’re getting closer to realistic pricing when (and if) it appears in South Africa. Turns out, in America, finding updates is as easy as calling someone at a store and asking for details.
Making you pay TriFold
That only works if you’re in the States, however. Samsung is said to be launching sales of its double-folding smartphone in the US, but it’s limiting sales to in-person only. It’ll also only debut the phones at a limited number of physical locations.
As to what it’ll cost, reports suggest retail pricing of $2,760 for the 512GB model of the TriFold. That’s R44,400 in South African money, but American prices never include taxes. Sales in Long Island and Queens are apparently on the cards, which puts the American retail price for Samsung’s newest innovation at R48,300 ($3,005). That’s an 8.9% tax rate.

Before you get too excited at the prospect of buying a relatively affordable first-generation dual-fold smartphone in South Africa, it’s worth checking out local pricing first. Samsung’s Galaxy Fold 7 will set you back R52,700 for the 512GB model today, which outstrips American TriFold pricing even when adjusted for a 15% sales tax (that’s R51,000, in case you’re interested).
Of course, Samsung might have found some way to make its dual-folding smartphone more affordable than the main Fold lineup. Given the expected internals, that seems unlikely. Samsung’s newest will probably launch closer to the Huawei Mate XT’s current R65,000 price point.
