As though Spotify expected an influx of newcomers immediately after it announced yet another price hike, the music streaming behemoth will finally make it easier to transfer music over from your previous service. It’s an incredibly useful service that third parties have offered for quite some time, though with varying results.
Spotify supreme?
Don’t expect much to change on that front, however. Spotify hasn’t developed something completely new in-house. Instead, it’s partnered with one of those third parties — TuneMyMusic — and simply integrated the service into the Spotify app. This, of course, only allows you to bring playlists into the app, not take ’em out.
The feature, built into the mobile app, rolls out globally beginning today. While our Android device running what used to be ‘Premium’ hasn’t received the addition, you’ll find the tool at the bottom of ‘Your Library’. Hook your account up to TuneMyMusic, and you’ll be whisked away to the web to find out where to pull the playlist from.
Judging by the TuneMyMusic website, the service currently supports transfers from a bunch of different streaming services, Apple Music, YouTube Music, Tidal, Napster, and Deezer chief among them. Spotify claims users can just watch their playlists roll in, with “no lost favourites” to speak of. We’ll see about that.
