If you’ve eagerly awaited the arrival of HDR10+ on Disney+, you’d best have one of Samsung’s TVs fixed to the wall if you hope to use it anytime soon. Disney is already late to add HDR10+ tech to its streaming service, which several of its competitors already support, including Netflix, and now it’s opted for a more gradual rollout.
Disney+ plus HDR10+ equals?
While Samsung won’t retain exclusive rights to use the HDR10+ standard for Disney+, it’s not yet clear when other TV brands will get some action. Not every title on Disney+ will reap the benefits, either. Around 1,000 Hulu titles will see the upgrade, “with additional Disney+ and Hulu content coming in the future,” Samsung said.
Only Samsung’s Crystal UHD TVs, from 2018 onwards, and “select” Samsung smart monitors can take advantage of HDR10+ support in the meantime, though the company doesn’t mention what those are.

If you’re not sure what all those letters mean, HDR10+ is a “next-generation” high dynamic range (HDR) format, building on the back of HDR10. It was developed by Samsung as an alternative to the Dolby Vision format. As for what it does, it delivers a wider range of contrast, colours, and a higher brightness. In short, Andor will look better.
“We are delighted to introduce this technology onto Disney+ and remain committed to collaborating with various partners to broaden HDR10+ support across our product range and the wider streaming landscape,” said Inbeom Kim, Samsung’s VP of visual display business.
