Don’t get too excited about your first look at Samsung’s Galaxy S26 smartphone lineup. While renders of the handset’s Pro, Ultra, and Edge models have turned up, and they do appear to show differences in these models’ cameras, they’re cosmetic. There’s no real sense of what sort of camera hardware is coming.
But it does appear that Samsung is heading back in time a little, bringing back the little island its camera sensors used to live on. The Galaxy S25 lineup featured the sensors as standalone protrusions. This look at Samsung’s next products suggests that’s going away.
Eying the Galaxy S26
The three camera arrays seen in the Galaxy S26 Pro, Ultra, and then the S26 Edge (left to right, above) aren’t doing much differently. There’s still a vertical row of three cameras (the Pro), or three vertically with a second pair of protrusions for a fourth sensor and LED flash (the Ultra). The biggest change is coming to the S26 Edge, which retains two sensors but includes an island that spans most of the rear’s upper portion.
Additionally, there are plenty of specs available for the Galaxy S26 lineup. Samsung will likely only make these official in January next year, but the South Korean company has always been a sieve when it comes to keeping secrets. That’s probably intentional, but you didn’t hear us say that.
The S26 Pro is thought to include a 6.27in display with Samsung’s usual bells and whistles, a Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 or an Exynos 2600 chipset, up to 12GB of RAM, and up to 512GB of storage. The three cameras around the rear are supposed to be a 50MP main, 12MP ultrawide, and 10MP telephoto.
The S26 Edge will share many of these specs, with the display and camera setup being the major differentiators. A 6.7in AMOLED and a 200MP/12MP rear camera arrangement are where this phone will deviate from the Pro. Plus there’s the whole ‘awfully skinny smartphone’ thing, with the S26 Edge measuring — if rumour is correct — just 5.5mm through the middle.
The Galaxy S26 Ultra is a more beastly affair, with a 6.9in AMOLED display, up to 16GB of RAM, and up to 1TB of storage. A 200MP main sensor, dual 50MP backups (one periscope and one telephoto), and a 12MP ultrawide handle camera duties, with Samsung giving users 60W wired charging. That’s speedier than the S25 Ultra’s measly 45W wired charging.
