South Africa’s Department of Trade, Industry, and Competition (DTIC) has announced two new local e-commerce platforms, launching on 1 July 2025, for ‘proudly South African products’.
Shop Proudly SA, which is already live and open for business, is a business-to-customer platform, while the second, called Market Access Platform (MAP), is a business-to-business platform.
The aim of these new digital stores is to further growth and support for Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) and locally manufactured goods and services.
Growing local e-commerce
“These platforms are meant to provide a seamless and centralised portals (sic) that will make it easier for consumers and procurement officers to source locally manufactured products and services and to meet their localisation targets,” said Parks Tau, Minister of Trade, Industry, and Competition.
According to Tau, over 1,700 locally made products will be available on the platforms across all sectors with ‘something for everyone’.

Proudly SA CEO, Eustace Mashimbye, said the Market Access Platform is meant to better fill the gap between local suppliers and corporates, the latter of which has said it struggles with the procurement of locally made goods.
“In essence, the database is a source of local content and quality vetted companies. Members of Proudly SA are automatically eligible to be enlisted on MAP as suppliers.”
Mashimbye added that corporate procurement officials using MAP will be able to list their tender opportunities so they can be ‘matched’ with local suppliers on the platform that meet their procurement aims.
