Range anxiety is real. We get it. Clearly so do the boffins at Haval, which has released an updated version of its H6 GT Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle. Yes, there’s a new acronym, if you haven’t seen it yet: PHEV. Haval’s latest PHEV has got some serious voomah, and should ease those crippling range anxiety fears.
All hail Haval
Both the EV charge and a full tank of petrol will get you 1,000 km. The new H6 GT PHEV has a combined output of 762Nm of torque, including its advanced 321kW Petrol-Electric Drivetrain. Using just electric power, Haval says you can make “short trips” of up to 180km. That’s at least a week’s worth of in-city driving, depending on how far you live from your office.
We agree that the hybrid option is “a smart, adaptable solution for the evolving needs of modern drivers”.
If you’re still impressed by this, it can do 0 to 100km/h in 4.9 seconds. Not bad for an SUV. Inside the centre touchscreen is a high-resolution 12.3-inch display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Pretty much a given these days, but still, it’s nice to know for sure.

There’s a wireless charging pad, users can customise the digital instrument cluster, and GWM has its own Siri, uhm, Intuitive Voice Command System. Just saying a simple “Hello GWM” is enough to have you controlling the volume, aircon, and even the panoramic sunroof with just a couple of words.
Is the Haval H6 GT 1.5T PHEV worth the R800,000 price in South Africa? We’ll have to tell you once we’ve taken a closer look.
