Samsung has recently revealed the names of its newest foldable smartphones. Not that anyone needed help guessing that the Galaxy Fold 7 and Galaxy Flip 7 are on the way. But in a rare display of official hype-building, the company has also just teased what it calls the “Ultra-experience” coming to its folding lineup.
Which, in official Samsung parlance, will probably translate to the Galaxy Z Ultra when it’s officially announced. The teaser is little more than a laudatory post on the official website, but it also includes a few seconds of a silhouette designed to show off how skinny the new smartphone is.
This is (maybe) the Galaxy Z Ultra
There’s plenty of inspirational language in Samsung’s teaser, none of which we’ll reproduce here. There are no technical details, but there are a couple of claims toward the end of the monologue which seem to refer to the Galaxy Z Ultra.
Samsung says “it’s only natural that users desire a foldable device that is as easy to carry as it is to use. To that end, Samsung engineers and designers are refining each generation of the Galaxy Z series to be thinner, lighter and more durable than the last.”
“This year, that journey reaches a new milestone. The newest Galaxy Z series is the thinnest, lightest and most advanced foldable yet – meticulously crafted and built to last.”
It’s suggestive of a new Galaxy Z Ultra waiting in the wings, but Samsung’s teaser also indicates that its Fold and Flip 7 models might slim down a little for 2025. This would allow the company to side-step at least one criticism of last year’s phones — namely, they were bulky compared to the competition — but we’ll also be waiting to see what, if any, performance and feature upgrades there are. We suspect the major changes will be AI-based, unfortunately.
Official confirmation of Samsung’s folding devices isn’t far away. The Unpacked that will reveal these phones will take place in July this year, since large companies are creatures of habit, fond of marketing predictability. Exactly when is yet to be revealed, but we’d hazard a guess that 24 or 31 July could be the official date.
