Isn’t Apple acting more like Samsung one of the warning signs of the apocalypse? Regardless, a report from The Information suggests that could be where the company is headed.
According to several supply chain sources that spoke to the outlet, the iPhone maker may be splitting up its smartphone release schedule. The iPhone Pro lineup would stick to the September announce/release schedule, with the more ‘basic’ devices waiting until early the next year.
Unpacking Apple
That’s similar to what Samsung does with its biannual Unpacked events, which keep different phone lineups separate in the hopes of supporting quarterly results (and keeping customers interested all year). It makes sense for the South Korean giant, because there’s a ton of stuff on the annual smartphone release card. That may soon become the case for Apple.
The changeover is thought to take place from 2026, which suggests that Apple’s foldable iPhone could finally turn up. The company famously lavishes attention on specific products, and a foldable iPhone would occupy the ‘premium’ segment of the lineup. Taking the stage alongside the iPhone Pro and Pro Max for 2026 would be a neat way of introducing the still-rumoured device.
It would also let the iPhone ‘e’ range become an annual release, by combining its reveal with the two ‘standard’ models at a later stage. That said…
It’s never wise to put too much stock in Apple rumours, particularly when it comes to unannounced and unreleased products. Rumours tend to drag on for years — the Apple TV (a literal TV), Project Titan — without anything like a resolution. But since everyone else seems to be doing it, a foldable iPhone makes sense for the premium tech maker.
