The ill-fated Humane AI Pin is dead. Well, very nearly. The artificial intelligence hardware you could wear will stop functioning in the next few days as the servers that support it shut down.
Why? Because the company itself is going away. Humane has immediately ceased sales of its hardware and those who did pay for it only have a few days’ grace before their access is cut off. The final date for operations is 28 February this year.
No more AI Pin
Humane’s “business priorities have shifted”, a softer way of saying that it is killing off everything it did and selling much of it to HP for $116 million. In 2025 terms, offloading an entire AI company for that sum is pocket change. If you’ve got the hardware, some functions will still work but not much.
Specifically, any portion of the Humane AI Pin that needs a connection to home base — “calling, messaging, Ai queries/responses, or cloud access” — is toast. Offline functions — “battery level” is one of those — will remain but that doesn’t sound especially useful. And, unfortunately, if you were an early adopter, you’re probably not getting your money back.
Only AI Pins that were shipped within the last 90 days will be refunded and only on the condition that these refunds are requested before 27 February.
But the tech behind Humane’s hardware could well live on. HP is buying its CosmOS for the aforementioned sum and will take on the company’s patents, pending patents, and technical staff. According to HP, the purchase “will help [them] create an intelligent ecosystem across all HP devices from AI PCs to smart printers and connected conference rooms.” Expect to see Humane’s software return in an altered and less silly form factor.
