Like nearly every lacklustre MCU movie released lately, all the hype surrounding Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event held last night wasn’t directed toward the stars of the show – the Galaxy S25 and its siblings – but rather those critical few seconds before everybody clears out. Samsung took the opportunity to (briefly) debut the long-rumoured, slimmer, lighter Galaxy S25 Edge. Hell, it even had Iron Man’s ‘AI’ assistant, Jarvis, unveil the thing.
Got the Edge over the rest

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge teaser
That’s its official title, though you might know it as the Galaxy S25 Slim that was kicked around the rumour mill for the past few weeks. Samsung’s teaser did exactly that – teased the device – and didn’t initially give away much. However, those attending the Galaxy Unpacked in San Jose, California were treated to a peek at the new devices in person.
Unfortunately, the same couldn’t be said for South Africa’s Galaxy Unpacked, where the only devices in the showroom happened to be the supposed centres of attention, the Galaxy S25 family. Despite outlets like GSMArena getting some hands-on time with the device, Samsung has yet to reveal any specs or release information. Expect that to change sooner rather than later, with rumours pointing to a release in May.
It’s clear that Samsung wants to beat Apple to the punchline, which was recently rumoured to be working on an ‘iPhone 17 Air’ featuring a far slimmer, toned-down body that’ll be offered in addition to the regular line-up expected to release around September 2025. But can it manage the feat?
According to GSMArena, the Galaxy S25 Edge most resembles its S25 siblings in the front. You might have expected a return to the ‘edge’ displays Samsung devices used to rock back in the day, but you’d be wrong. The S25 Edge’s display is entirely flat with most of the changes coming from the extremely thin edges and revamped rear.
There aren’t any official measurements floating about, but it’s obvious that the Galaxy S25 Edge is thin. Really thin. But it’s the “missing” shooter that intrigues us most. Rather than opt for a three-camera array like you’d find on the rest of the S25 series, the Edge makes do with a simple two-shooter setup and flash ring that juts out from the rear, somewhat ruining the ultra-slim design Samsung has worked on.

Samsung was full of teasers last night. Not only did it briefly show off the Galaxy S25 Edge, but we also got a look at the South Korean outfit’s plans to delve into new devices, like the XR headset most resembling the Apple Vision Pro, as well as a hint of what appears to be a tri-folding phone. Again, Samsung decided to leave all the important bits at home and didn’t bring any demo units or specs to the event. We know it’s coming. The real question is when?
The most obvious answer seems to be at Samsung’s next big dedicated Unpacked event where it likes to unveil its latest line of foldables, usually scheduled to land in July, judging by past events. Whether Samsung will have the device ready by then… remains to be seen.
