Some kids have parents with more money than they know what to do with. Those parents keep outfits like The Little Car Company in business. The newest vehicle to issue forth from the company? The Ferrari Testa Rossa J, a 75%-sized EV replica of the iconic Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa.
One version of this replica is currently on display at Harrods in London. For most readers, this won’t matter. The sort of folks who can afford one won’t mind nipping up to the Northern Hemisphere for the weekend to check it out.
Testa Rossa J, for Junior
If it’s not immediately obvious, you probably cannot afford one of these little EVs. The Testa Rossa J will be constructed in a limited run of 299 vehicles with the assistance of Ferrari itself. It’ll be available in a range of finishes, with everything from the paint to the livery to the interior being customisable. How much it’ll cost is something of a mystery but you need to lay down 20% of the cost when you pre-order and another 50% of the remainder when you’ve decided on what the final finish will consist of. It won’t be cheap.
You’ve got handmade 12in wire rims, genuine Pirelli tyres, and a fully functional dashboard showing everything from speed to battery information to thank for that. The aluminium body is hand-shaped the same way as the original and the steering and suspension systems are both exact, if smaller, replicas. It’s powered by three batteries and gets up to 90km on a charge. You could, technically, drive it to work.
You’d think that something like this, despite being smaller than the real deal, is intended for adults. That’s… not strictly true. Sure, adults can drive the thing but it’s got several modes “catering for drives of all ages and abilities”. This goes from Novice (maxing out at 24km/h) to Race (80km/h), allowing for some joyful terrorising of the horses on the grand estate the Testa Rossa J will doubtless wind up living.
And, if this Ferrari isn’t quite your cup of overpriced tea, there’s always a similarly set up Bugatti to explore that’ll set you back around R500,000.
