Apple honours LGBTQ+ community with new Pride Edition Sport gear

In an effort to bring more awareness, unity and equality into the world, Apple has announced a new sports band in support of the LGBTQ+ community.

After launching the Watch Black Unity Sport Loop series in celebration of Black History Month in October last year, this month, the fruit company announced a new Pride Edition Sport Loop and wallpaper ahead of LGBTQ+ Pride Month in June.

Full of pride

In addition to the strap’s rainbow colours, Apple says the Pride Edition also includes black and brown colours – to represent the Black and Latin marginalized LGBTQ+ communities and those living with HIV/Aids. It also said that transgender and nonconforming people are represented by the band’s white, pink and light blue colours.

“To create the Pride script, some of these textile loops were removed, resulting in a three-dimensional texture you can see and feel,” says Apple.

Along with the Pride Edition Sport Loop, the tech giant introduced a pride-filled watch face and iOS wallpaper, complete with a rainbow flag, known as the Pride Celebration watch face and wallpaper. The design (as seen above) is animated, designed to move at the slightest touch as users interact with the device.

The Pride Edition Sport Loop will be available in 41mm and 45mm sizes with orders on the company’s website and in the Store app opening on 23 May for $50 (R960). The Pride Celebration watch face and iOS wallpaper will be available on watches running watchOS 9.5 and on iPhones with iOS 16.5.

If you want to show your support you can download the watch face and wallpaper via App Clips on the Pride Band’s packaging, physical store locations, and the Apple Store app, or from Apple’s website.
