If you own a recent Porsche then, first, congratulations. We hate you a little bit. But also, you owe it to yourself to check out the new TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 Porsche Edition. The newest smartwatch from the iconic watchmaker has been designed with Taycan owners in mind. You don’t need to own one. But if you want your smartwatch to match…
The Connected Calibre smartwatch is the result of an ongoing TAG/Porsche partnership, first undertaken last year. The first device from that team-up, the Carrera Porsche Chronograph, was a much more conventional timepiece. This one features much more modern sensibilities.
45mm Connected Calibre
The new Porsche partnership is based on the 45mm Connected Calibre E4. This means, yes, you could pick up a similar device for cheaper. But it wouldn’t integrate with your high-speed German vehicle quite as effectively. This one included accents in Frozen Blue Metallic, a shade used in the Porsche Taycan. The automaker’s branding is included on the wristwatch, both on top and underneath where the heart-rate monitor lives.
The watch itself features a titanium case, a black ceramic bezel, and a black diamond-like carbon finish. There’s a choice of black plastic or calf-skin leather strap. The custom Circuit watch face suggests racing. Just like that Porsche tucked away in your garage, yes? But if this was all there was to it, it wouldn’t be that remarkable.
See, the Connected Calibre E4 Porsche Edition is compatible with a few Porsche models. If you’ve got a Taycan, Macan, Cayenne, Panamera, 911, or 718 (only newer models), it’ll sync with your car and offer extra info. In the Taycan’s case, it’ll show battery level and remaining range. It’ll do the same with any Porsche hybrids. If you’re still driving a compatible naturally aspirated car, it’ll display remaining and total mileage, as well as climate controls.
TAG’s watch uses a Snapdragon Wear 4100+ processor, includes a full day’s battery life, and arrives running WearOS 2.0. It’ll get WearOS 3.0 when that operating system drops. Oh, and it’s fully waterproof, up to 50 metres. If you need any more than that, you’re driving your Porsche wrong.
If you can afford a Porsche Taycan, you’re probably also the target market for this smartwatch. It retails for a little over R45,000 ($2,750) if you snag one from overseas. We’re attempting to dig up local pricing and availability. The wristwear will almost certainly turn up in South Africa.
