Brett and Duncan are joined by Michael Chang, marketing manager of MSI South Africa, to discuss the state of the gaming industry.
As people were forced indoors during the pandemic, many turned to video games as a way to pass the time, connect with friends or distract themselves from the sometimes-dystopian reality. A lot of those people stuck with the hobby when things started to shift to a hybrid work-from-home environment. That meant the industry as a whole saw substantial growth over the last two or three years. Michael explains how that growth has affected MSI’s approach to its products.
But it’s not just casual gaming that’s grown. The esports industry also saw a large boom of growth in both people watching the pros compete and new people trying to become pros themselves. We discuss if MSI has felt that growth and how it plans to leverage it.
Then, lastly, we touch on the metaverse. MSI’s new laptops are ‘metaverse ready’, but what does that mean? How will MSI’s partnership with Intel and the new 12th-gen CPUs impact the future of gaming?
