You might have a good job, but it’s probably never gonna be as cool as Ken Block’s 9-to-5. Or whatever his hours are. This rally driver has done pretty much everything, but generally, he gets given custom cars and hoons around in them. For money. The latest comes by way of Audi, who are making him a completely custom EV.
The vehicle is called the Audi S1 Hoonitron, because what else were they going to call it? It’s based on the company’s iconic Sport Quattro S1 rally car, an inline five-cylinder that did interesting things in the 1980s. It’s also a vehicle dear to Block’s heart since it inspired him to do mad things in a motorcar for a living.
Audi’s chip off the old Block
There is, unfortunately, not too much detail on what’s to come from the S1 Hoonitron. Odds are it’s similarly specced to the Audi e-Tron platform. It’s remarkable for the fact that Audi designed the prototype in a matter of weeks — not a normal procedure for the company.
Block got to check out the work-in-progress at the Audi Design Center in Ingolstadt, Germany. Unfortunately, the motorised madman hasn’t spent any time behind the wheel. Yet.
But he will get to that point. Block has promised to show off what it can do in a future video that may or may not be called ‘Elektrikhana’. It’ll be a Gymkhana, which tends to show off the sort of driving skills you like to fondly think you have. You don’t, unless you’re playing Forza Motorsport 23, but don’t let that get in the way of your dreams. Just don’t expect your insurance company to agree with you. Ken Block, in the S1 Hoonitron, though? Yeah, the insurance types are probably fine with that.
