Clubhouse might be the original, big social audio platform but that doesn’t mean it’s got everything going for it. While it has plenty to offer, it does lack a few key features that its competitors/lookalikes don’t. For example, it’s lacked closed captions, an important feature for accessibility for those with hearing impediments, for quite a while now. Well, no longer!

closed captioning is here for iOS! update your app now to see it in action in live rooms.

Starting today, live closed captions are supported on Clubhouse’s iOS app. Live closed captions are something we can always get behind, and we’re happy to see them make their way into more and more platforms. Accessibility is important, folks.
In its current form, closed captions are fully supported in 13 languages according to TechCrunch: English, Yue and Mandarin Chinese, Spanish, Arabic, Russian, Turkish, Korean, Japanese, Italian, French, German and Cantonese.
It’s a new feature, so it’s not perfect yet. Replying to Clubhouse’s Twitter announcement, a user said the Spanish captioning was “crazy good” in one room, but “gibberish” in another. “You’ll get there. Paso a paso,” she writes.
Clubhouse has been making strides with new features to keep up with the competition lately. Back in October it rolled out ‘Music Mode’ for online performances, and expanded on its UI language options earlier this month.
There’s no word on whether or not this language selection will expand at some point, but we’d be a little surprised if it didn’t. Likewise, we don’t know when the feature will come to Android (considering how long it took the app itself to get there), but we don’t think it’ll be too long from now.
