Booze on the move? Shoprite launches an online liquor store

If lockdown’s taught us anything, it’s that you can have pretty much anything delivered to your doorstep in no time. Local e-commerce ventures exploded, offering unheard-of delivery times and special offers for online shoppers. Checkers’ Sixty60 offering is still hailed as one of the best options in SA, and the holding company, Shoprite, has launched a dedicated channel for booze called LiquorShop Online.

The Shoprite Group launched the online liquor store today, offering more than 3,000 alcoholic options via the site at launch. It offers a variety ranging from basic beers and ciders to wines and mixes, up to higher-end spirits you may not find in general stores.

    Liquor, delivered on your stoep

It looks like the online store also offers alcoholic accessories, including alcoholic vessels like wine glasses, tumblers and decanters. You’ll even find bottle openers and microfibre polishing cloths on sale — because a home-bar isn’t complete without those, right?

Because this is a Shoprite Group platform, users will be able to link their Xtra Savings cards to benefit from certain deals and gain points. The site is currently running launch specials, too.

If you’re in Gauteng or the Western Cape, LiquorShop Online offers free delivery for any order over R450. Under that? You’ll pay a flat rate of R75 for delivery. If you find yourself in any other province (we’re sorry), you’ll have to pay a flat rate of R150 for any orders under R1,000.
