Standard Bank‘s online portals have, for the third time this year, crashed around month-end. Users who attempted to log into the company’s banking services via its mobile app were greeted this morning with a notification that the company’s services were down.

Users also reported issues, according to Down Detector, with regular old online banking but a check by Stuff showed that its browser-based online banking was working as usual. But the app, many folks’ usual method of conducting their banking, was down for most of the morning.
Earlier today, the app’s message said, “You may be finding it difficult to use our banking app. We are sorting this out. Your card services, ATMs, Internet Banking and Cellphone Banking are not affected.” It was later updated to say that the outage would last until 10:00 this morning. Standard Bank, handily, was true to its word.
This is the third time this year the bank has crashed over the payday period. It doesn’t seem to be much more than a coincidence, but it is still awfully inconvenient for customers.
