We know the Xiaomi brand is relatively new in South Africa, and we’ve only recently started seeing flagship devices land here. We reviewed the slightly older Redmi Note 10 Pro about a month ago but Chinese social media is already abuzz with the next in the lineup — the Redmi Note 11 and Note 11 Pro devices.
According to various leaks on Weibo, the Chinese social media platform akin to Facebook here, Xiaomi is gearing up to launch two more flagship devices under the Note moniker.
As always, we’d take these rumoured specifications with a pinch of salt, especially considering many of these devices launch in Western territories with different chipsets. We’re hoping to see a different chipset here because the Weibo leaks refer to the new Note range being powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity processors.
The older Note 10 Pro is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 732G, which is by no means a flagship processor, but Qualcomm has proved that its hardware performs well in other competing brands’ higher-end devices.
There’s a Xiaomi Redmi Note 11
In the base Note 11 handset, expect to see Dimensity 810 chipset coupled with 6GB or 8GB of memory and 128GB of onboard storage. We might also see 5G capability (although that’s become standard across higher-end devices, so it should be there). The display may be an LED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate.
Around back, the Note 11 should be fitted with a decent 50MP main sensor, and everything will stay powered with a 5,000 mAh battery and 33W fast charging.
And a Redmi Note 11 Pro
Of course, we can expect the Note 11 Pro to pack slightly more, spec-wise, than the smaller handset. This one will be powered by the Dimensity 920 SoC and, this time around, a 120Hz OLED display is expected.
There may be a giant 108MP main camera sensor in the rear, with a tiny 16MP shooter up front. Apparently, there’s some confusion about the actual charging speed on this device, including battery capacity, but it may come with a 5,000mAh battery like its smaller sibling, and either 67W or 120W fast charging.
We’ll probably see the company launch these in the Chinese market in the next month. As is customary for South Africa, we’ll likely only see the pair launch here in a few months’ time. Xiaomi South Africa is gearing up to launch a device later this week.
