See William Shatner marvel at weightlessness in first footage from inside NS-18

William Shatner in space

Well, Blue Origin did it. The space company sent beloved actor William Shatner off the surface of the planet, out beyond the Kármán line and then returned the 90-year-old man to Earth safely. We’re not sure what we’re going to be up to at that age, but now it has to be bungee jumping on Mars or something — thanks for that, Bill.

William Shatner says ‘Wow’

Blue Origin has released some video of New Shepard 18, its second manned flight to the heavens. The footage shows Shatner and the other passengers, Audrey Powers, Chris Boshuzien and Glen de Vries, as NS-18 gets to its apogee. The venerable actor’s voice is the only one heard as he marvels over the view of the planet and the experience of weightlessness, but the video also shows just how cramped it is inside the capsule.

On landing, Shatner said, “To see the blue color whip by, and now you’re staring into blackness, that’s the thing … this experience is something unbelievable … everybody in the world needs to do this. Everybody in the world needs to see this.”

“It’s extraordinary, extraordinary. It’s so much larger than me and life. It hasn’t got anything to do with the little green men and the blue orb. It has to do with the enormity and the quickness and the suddenness of life and death.”
