Apple set to Unleash its powerful new MacBooks on 18 October

Apple’s September event has come and gone, leaving the new iPhone in its wake. But there’s something more coming — the tech maker has announced an October event, subtitled “Unleashed”, that should see more MacBook Pros turn up before the end of the year.

The event kicks off on 18 October at 10:00 PDT — which is 19:00 South African Standard Time. As usual, Stuff will be watching the event with a beady eye. You can expect all of the details to turn up as Apple announces them, but here’s what you can expect.

Apple Unleashed

Apple’s online event will probably run for an hour and it’ll likely cover the new 14in and 16in MacBook Pro models, powered by the company’s also to-be-announced M1X processors. We can actually hear Tim’s voice introducing them now…

The MacBook Pro rumour mill has churned for some time, with the most recent revolution spitting out details of the incoming ARM-based processor. It’ll apparently have ten CPU cores (eight high-performance and two high-efficiency), and sixteen GPU cores, with another version matching the CPU cores but throwing in 32 GPU cores.

There’s also reportedly (via Engadget) a whole new redesign in the works, if taking inspiration from the pre-2016 look and feel can be termed “new”. Odds are Apple will have a few other surprises as well. A new Mac Mini, new AirPods, or maybe even a smart speaker or two could make themselves known at next week’s event as well.
