WhatsApp updates voice notes, might fix buggy chat backup

It looks like it’s about time for another WhatsApp feature update — the Facebook-owned messaging app is about to add one useful feature, and potentially one rumoured feature.

Whether you love or hate voice notes, they’re particularly useful in certain scenarios and are about to become slightly more useful. A new feature, as detailed by the trusty WABetaInfo, will allow users to pause and restart voice note recording in the app.

This means that anyone will, once the feature makes it to devices, be able to stop recording a single voice note and continue recording it later on. This could be particularly useful when you’re being interrupted or need to verify something before you say it. According to WABetaInfo, there isn’t clarity on when this feature will make it to the app, but it should be in one of the upcoming updates.

The second update that may be on the horizon, is actually a fix for a bug that’s been interrupting chat backups on Android devices.

It looks like a Reddit user (u/torojet) published a fix for the issue, after which WABetaInfo picked it up and published the fix. “If a user’s chat backup restoration is stuck at 100 percent, they may not be able to back up their chats during this period, potentially losing out on important messages,” reports Gadgets360.

We’re betting WhatsApp knows about the chat backup issue, and will address it in a future update — especially considering it’s on Reddit now. The app’s been pumping out updates in recent months, including a voice note transcription feature detailed, a business directory feature and the addition of backup encryption.
