iPhone users are complaining that the newest iOS update has left them without network connectivity on their phones. Instead, they’re met with an understandably frustrating “No Service” message.
iOS users sans service
Users have been talking to Apple’s Developer and Discussion forums since the release of iOS 14.7.1, which was launched to correct a security issue, as well as an unlock bug on the Apple Watch. Users on a wide variety of devices such as the iPhone 6S, 7, 8, and 11, describe being completely stranded network-wise, even after trying several fixes to get back online.
Apple’s own support page suggests several tips when facing a “No Service” message on its devices, such as turning the device off and on again, turning cellular data off and on, removing and re-inserting your SIM card, updating to the latest version of iOS (somewhat ironic, that), and, if all else fails, contacting your network carrier and working with them to resolve the issue.
Being completely unable to access your mobile network functionally turns your iPhone into an old-school SIM-less iPod touch from the early 2010s, and when you’re paying premium Apple prices for premium Apple hardware we can understand why you’d find a bug like this particularly frustrating.
9to5Mac speculates that Apple will probably put out a fix, though not in the form of a new, full-fledged OS update. iOS 14.8 reportedly hasn’t even entered beta just yet, so Apple will probably deliver the fix in the form of iOS 14.7.2 soon enough. Hopefully.
