If you’re an Internet Explorer fan… well, well done for hanging in there. Also, we have some bad news: Microsoft is finally retiring this browser for good.
In a post on Microsoft’s official blog, program manager Sean Lyndersay says the software giant’s browser future lies in Edge.
Bye-bye Internet Explorer, Hello Edge
“Today, we are at the next stage of that journey: we are announcing that the future of Internet Explorer on Windows 10 is in Microsoft Edge,” Lyndersay writes.
“Not only is Microsoft Edge a faster, more secure and more modern browsing experience than Internet Explorer, but it is also able to address a key concern: compatibility for older, legacy websites and applications. Microsoft Edge has Internet Explorer mode (“IE mode”) built-in, so you can access those legacy Internet Explorer-based websites and applications straight from Microsoft Edge.”
Lyndersay end by saying, the “… desktop application will be retired and go out of support on June 15, 2022, for certain versions of Windows 10.”

According to a report on The Verge, it’s likely to see the end of the browser being bundled in Windows either in June 2022 or soon after.
Microsoft has been steering users away from its browser for years, and it’s a browser that most users hardly open these days. Still, after more than 25-years in existence, no one can say that IE didn’t have a good run.
So farewell to thee, Explorer. You can now join Netscape in history’s annals (and we won’t mention how that happened, because we’re nice people).
