Towards the end of last year, DStv launched its snazzy little all-purpose entertainment box: The Explora Ultra. Not only could you get all of DStv’s channels, but there was built-in support for Netflix, Amazon Prime, Showmax and now YouTube has joined the available platforms on the box. It’s rather strange that YouTube is only being added to the assortment of apps now, considering the scale of the video-sharing platform and how many people make use of it on an almost daily basis. It should hopefully diversify the available content on the Explora Ultra even further.
Speaking to MyBroadband, Multichoice South Africa CEO Nyiko Shiburi, “The addition of YouTube to the Explora Ultra builds on DStv’s ambition to be a one-stop video entertainment hub, giving our customers more convenience and choice to access local and international content on a single device.”
YouTube doesn’t have repeats
What makes the addition of YouTube even better is that users will be able to play videos from a secondary device, like a smartphone, directly onto the TV. No pairing is needed to set this up thanks to the Discovery and Launch that comes with the Explora Ultra. The process should be fairly seamless but we’ll leave any judgements until after we’ve tested it ourselves.
In order to access YouTube on the Explora Ultra, you’ll need an active DStv account and a stable (preferably high speed) internet connection. You’ll also need to pay the access fee that comes with setting up the DStv Explora Ultra, but you’ve mostly like done that already.
