Samsung’s Galaxy S21 FE has leaked, because of course it has

Galaxy S21 FE leak

Samsung first released its stepped-down-from-flagship-specs S20 Fan Edition (FE) handset last year, so we’ve been expecting the Galaxy S21 FE to turn up sometime this year. That time is nigh, as the handset appears to have broken cover in the form of a leaked image or two.

The images come by way of OnLeaks, known for very early and very accurate smartphone information, so we’ve got little reason to suspect anything amiss. Here’s what the leaked images tell us.

FE-eling it out

The obvious? The Galaxy S21 FE will look an awful lot like the vanilla Galaxy S21. The front and rear design are identical, right down to the camera bump. Which makes sense — you can’t call something a Fan Edition if it looks nothing like the source material. But its dimensions, of 155.7 x 74.5 x 7.9mm (9.3mm over the camera bump) suggest a slightly larger device than Samsung’s entry-level superphone.

The frame will be metal, but there’s said to be a ‘Glastic’ material in place for the rear panel. We assume that means plastic that looks kinda-sorta like glass? Unless Samsung’s gone seriously space-aged on us, that seems like what we’ll see at launch.

The Galaxy S21 FE’s display is reported to be 6.4in, which is definitely larger than the stock S21, and a single front-facing camera will be tucked inside the display. The rear camera arrangement will see three cameras in place. We’d be guessing if we told you what those cameras would be Samsung may stick with the same triple setup from its larger phones. If there are any step-downs, it’ll be because Samsung has a surplus of sensors to use up.

That’s all we have at this point. There’s no processor or other internal info, and no clue on when it’ll be released. The last iteration dropped in September last year, but 2020 wasn’t a good year for anybody. It’s possible we’ll see the Galaxy S21 FE turn up a little earlier this year.
