Samsung confirms it is removing the charging block from the Galaxy S21 box

While Apple is the company that set the standard for awkwardly claiming it was saving the planet by removing the charging adapter from the box on shipped iPhone 12s, we all knew we’d see that again in the future. Samsung has just announced it will be doing the same thing for the Galaxy S21 range of phones.

The reasoning behind it makes sense. During its Unpacked 2021 event, Samsung confirmed that it was removing the charger because it was actively trying to do its part to help make the planet a little cleaner by reducing the plastic that’s shipped with every phone. They’re also looking to cut down on greenhouse gasses emitted when delivering bulk stock of the phones. Still, we all know that Samsung stands to make a lot of cash by selling the charging adapter as a separate accessory.

Samsung charges into a greener tomorrow

Of course, what Samsung is saying about reducing its impact on the planet is true. By cutting out the included adapters, it certainly won’t make the death of Earth come any faster. It does feel like a trend in major corporations to both want to save the planet by going greener by removing accessories many have come to take for granted. We’re sure that the fact that they’ll make more revenue from the decision doesn’t make any accountants’ eyes light up. Again, Apple did the same thing when it unveiled the iPhone 12 last year and while people were upset it wasn’t an anger that lasted.

We haven’t yet received word on how much the adapter will cost but we do know that the Galaxy S21 will still come with a USB cable in the box so you should be able to make a plan. It’s true many users still have and use the charging blocks included with older devices and Samsung’s exclusion is certainly less egregious than Apples, considering the adapter will probably cost much less than an iPhone charger. This could be the future that becomes common in the industry.
