Netflix promises uses at least one new movie a week in 2021

Netflix

Netflix wants you to know that it makes movies. It’s fairly well know at this point but given how traditional Hollywood hasn’t been all that welcoming to streaming-only movies, Netflix feels like it’s got to prove the point. Thus, the video-on-demand service has announced that subscribers can expect at least one new movie from Netflix every week for the whole of 2021. That’s a lot of films, with the current number sitting at around 70 releases throughout the year.

This puts Netflix well in front of competing services such as Amazon Prime Video, Showmax and Disney+ (not that Disney+ counts in South Africa… yet) and should hopefully keep viewers satisfied for the upcoming year. Of course, we have no idea if these films will be good or not but that’s another story entirely.

Netflix or Net-flops?

Netflix has got out and released the year’s slate of movies which, as pointed out by The Verge, is rather strange for the company. Yet with more and more streaming services vying for those valuable subscribers, it seems like a decent idea to give people an idea of what they can expect. In this way, Netflix not only retains excited subscribers but also attracts potential new ones with the hype.

Now, this list of movies could potentially change with potential development issues and problems with production. Of course, it could also grow as Netflix might still have unannounced films it’s still finalising deals for. One has to hope that by the time the one you’re excited for comes out you  need a TV license to watch it. In any case, here are the films Netflix has announced for 2021.
