Finally, South Africa is graced with Sony’s brand new mirrorless camera, the Alpha 7S III. And this cam brings some intriguing video features to the game.
The Mark III of the A7S is fitted with a new 12.1MP back-illuminated full-frame Exmor R CMOS sensor. Combine that with Sony’s own Bionz XR processing engine, and you get a video and image capturing monster of a device. But where its real strength lies, is in the full house of features, mainly focussing on videography.
It hasn’t just improved on a few aspects of the Alpha 7 series, but a whole lot. It can shoot up to 4K video and also in speeds of up to 120fps. Its main drawcard is the low-light capability — it’s impressive for such a portable camera. The A7S III can shoot video with up to 409,600 ISO with 15 stops of dynamic range — that’s seriously impressive for a mirrorless/full-frame of this size, and after seeing some test shots, we can’t wait to test this feature out ourselves.
Another great upgrade, is the addition of a touch-display LCD up front that can swivel out and up. As we’ve seen on some of the previous Alpha models, the A7S III features 759 phase-detection autofocus points and eye-tracking for humans and animals, as well as 5-axis in-body image stabilisation and active stabilisation features.
But not all of the features are aimed at videographers — for those stills snappers, you also get a 9.4 million dot OLED electronic viewfinder, and high-speed continuous shooting at up to 10fps. The Sony A7S III is available to buy right now for R65,495.
