I can’t believe I’m writing this. You know, I woke up thinking I would have a lovely day. Had a good coffee in the morning, saw a cool Call of Duty trailer, completely avoided Facebook because my feed is just drowning in strange Boss Baby-like caricatures of all my friends doing that horizontal slide-in wave pose.
Really, in times of the Avatarpocalypse the last thing I want to be doing is placing myself within that sphere of Facebook. Yet I’m nothing if not dedicated to the Stuff readers. I will wade into the waters of dumb cartoons and social media trends to ensure that you’re not left out. I do this not for fame, or glory. I do this for money, obviously. This is my job and rent is coming up real soon.
If you happen to have opened Facebook at some point in the past week, you’ll no doubt have seen a veritable flood of silly looking people-cartoons strewn about your feed. That’s because Facebook announced that the “Avatar” program, a feature that lets people design their own colourful caricature, has finally been brought over to Africa. So not to miss out on the zeitgeist, everyone jumped on the idea of a cartoon-self, but maybe you just haven’t figured out how to do it? Okay, I’m going to tell you how to do it. Whether you make a Facebook avatar or not is up to you. I’m a grumpy cynic so maybe take my opinions with a pinch of salt.
The first thing you’ll want to do is ensure that you have the latest version of Facebook installed on your mobile device.
Right, you’re in the Facebook app. Next thing to do is find the three horizontal lines on the top right of the screen. Give that a tap and look for the “See More” option. When you tap on that, the first thing at the top of the drop-down menu will be “Avatars”. Select it and click “Next”.
You’ll be taken to a screen that will allow you to build and customise your Avatar to your heart’s content. Switching skin tone, hairstyles, eye colour; it’s like a much less intuitive and robust Sims 4 creator! Once you’ve made your avatar, tap on the “Done” button and you’ll be free to share and use your creation however you please.
