We’re not about to make fun of 5G, it’s honestly impressive to see how fast a wireless internet connection can be…when you’re able to find a location where there’s actually coverage. It’s still being rolled out in South Africa and while the areas that now support 5G are growing seemingly daily, it’s rare to find a device that actually, well… supports 5G. Fortunately, the Huawei P40 Lite 5G is now in the country and it won’t even cost the soul of your first born son.
5G for less than 10gs
We’ve had the P40 Lite in the country for a few months now but a 5G version is pretty huge news. It’s still rare that flagship phones come with 5G chipsets so the fact that the P40 Lite is out there rocking the damn thing is more than a little impressive.
Let’s take a look at the rest of those specs, shall we? Available in either Space Silver or Midnight Black the P40 Lite comes with everything you’d expect from the original model, including a 64MP Quad camera and 40W fast charging, but also supports “Pure 5G or, Dual SIM 5G + 4G”.
Now, there is a touch of fine text at the bottom of the product page which states that, “5G network speed and quality depend on local availability of 5G infrastructure”, which makes a lot of sense. Huawei is building for a future where 5G coverage is much further spread than it is now. We suppose you could look at investing in a 5G phone as being adopted into the infrastructure?
The best part is that the 5G version of the P40 Lite won’t even break the bank, costing R9 500 — which is just R3 000 more than the original non-5G supported P40 Lite. You love to see it, right? The Huawei P40 Lite 5G will be in stores in 1 August 2020.
