Following its announcement at WWDC, Apple’s newest operating systems have not been accessible by us ‘normies’. Now, Apple has made iOS 14’s beta available to download for anyone. Here’s how you can install it now.
First things first, however. iOS 14 brings some subtle changes to the iPhone interface, with the same said for iPadOS 14. You may run into a bug or two, as this is still in beta phase and not officially launched yet. Beta phases are generally used to test software before it launches into the world. You know, just to work out the kinks.
Here’s what you can expect from iOS 14:
- Picture-in-picture video
- Home Screen widgets
- New ‘back tap’ gestures for custom shortcuts like screenshots
- An App Library
- Security recommendations for passwords
- Call notifications that don’t take up your whole screen
- Pinned conversations in Messages
- A new Translate app
Okay, now that we’ve got the technical stuff out of the way, here’s the quick and dirty download method for iOS 14 on your iPhone. Just get yourself over to Apple’s Beta Software Program page, sign up, enrol the devices you want to use and Presto! You’ll now receive a download prompt on your device. It may take a while. Just be patient.
Just a small PSA: Make sure to back up all of your important stuff before installing beta software. It may be buggy or brick your phone. Don’t come crying to us when this happens. If you’re unsure of your ability to install the beta, rather wait for the final OS to launch to the public.
