Sometimes 140 characters just aren’t enough to convey your intentions on Twitter. While we welcome the short-format, sometimes more info is needed without going for a thread. That’s probably why Twitter is testing the posting of audio files.
The feature to send voice tweets will soon roll out to all Twitter users. Users will have the option to share audio recordings of up to 140 seconds directly to their feed to accompany the text, photos, videos, and GIFs they already can share with their followers. So, 140 seconds may have the capacity to have more info than the traditional 140 characters. We guess?
“But sometimes 280 characters aren’t enough and some conversational nuances are lost in translation. So starting today, we’re testing a new feature that will add a more human touch to the way we use Twitter – your very own voice,” Twitter explains in a recent blog post.
But don’t get too excited, the feature is not widely available yet, and only a handful of iOS Twitter users may have access to the voice feature right now. We’re expecting it to roll out to more users in due time. But if you’re among the lucky ones, it’s easy enough to access the feature right now.
“Tweeting with your voice is not too different from Tweeting with text. To start, open the Tweet composer and tap the new icon with wavelengths. You’ll see your profile photo with the record button at the bottom – tap this to record your voice,” the blog post details.
To listen to a voice tweet that appears in your feed, simply click on the audio to play. You’ll see what audio is playing in a bar across the bottom of your app. Twitter hasn’t disclosed how it can monitor content on a global level, and moderation may be far harder without text. But let’s see where this goes.
