Huawei’s about more than just phones, as this next lot of news may remind you. The company also makes some mighty slick wearables and there’s a new one headed to market. The Huawei Watch GT 2, announced last month, has just gone up for pre-order in South Africa. The asking price? A cool R5k.
One to watch
The price may not be as high as it seems on first glance. The Watch GT 2 is Huawei’s premium wearable, with promised uptime of up to two weeks (we believe ’em) in quite a feature-packed device. The 1.39in OLED display (454 x 454) offers touch and gesture control, GPS is supported and there’s a collection of sensors from heart-rate to ambient light to air pressure contained within. The device is rated 5ATM, which means you’ll have to go way out of your way to drown the thing. Best of all, you don’t have to worry about Donald Trump mucking it up for you.
But wait…!
Of course there’s more. In addition to Huawei’s high-end wearable, folks who pre-order before the 17 October launch will also snag themselves a pair of the company’s FreeLace in-ears. That makes up about half the value of the whole arrangement, since the FreeLaces go for R2,500 on their own. They make quite an attractive pair (above), don’t they?
An official local launch of the Watch GT 2 will take place next week. We’ll have the early details as well as some hands-on impressions from there, as well as a review, as soon as we can arrange it. Huawei’s positioning the device as a multitalented, all-round sports tracker and smartwatch. We can’t wait to see just how true that is.
