Marvel and Disney announce a whack of amazing series tailored for us geeks on Disney+

Okay, we know the Disney+ streaming service isn’t available in South Africa (or anywhere else) yet. In fact, we’re betting on some VPN magic being needed when it launches. But it’ll be worth it. Marvel Studios and Disney announced more than a few things to get excited about at its D23 conference over the weekend.

A month after unveiling an ambitious Phase 4 lineup at San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel has confirmed three new series in the works for Disney+: She-Hulk, Moon Knight and Ms Marvel. We’ll also see a new Star Wars  tale featuring Ewan McGregor as Obi Wan Kenobi in a newly announced series. We also got a glimpse of a new poster for WandaVision. And… we cannot contain ourselves.

MCU’s got back

It looks like Bruce Banner isn’t the only raging green monster in the Marvel Universe. We’ve got us some well-deserved female representation. She-Hulk, aka Jennifer Walters, is an attorney and cousin to Bruce Banner. She’s also the subject of a series called… She-Hulk. The premise? Walters receives a blood transfusion from her cousin Brucey, which in-turn (obviously) gives her some unexpected powers.

Moon Knight is basically Marvel’s answer to Batman, being a super-rich dude with a few alter egos. He may have… issues

We are most excited about the Ms Marvel series that Disney confirmed. Ms Marvel will be headed up by British writer Bisha K. Ali, who will write the upcoming live-action adaptation. Considering the massive success of Captain Marvel, we’re sure Ms Marvel will be an absolute hit.

Marvel’s got a whole slate planned above and beyond that. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is set for 2020. We’re also expecting a Loki series featuring Tom Hiddleston in 2021 that starts off where Loki steals the tesseract in Endgame. Then there’s the highly anticipated WandaVision with Elizabeth Olsen in her role of Scarlet Witch and Paul Bettany as Vision. And a Hawkeye series in 2021 too. Oh, where will we find enough time?

And the actual universe

The Star Wars universe will also extend tremendously with more than a few confirmed Disney+ series. Ewan McGregor confirmed that we’ll get a Kenobi: A Star Wars Story live-action series. Combined with the previously confirmed Mandalorian, there’s a whole lot to be excited about if you’re a Star Wars fan. We are also expecting a prequel series based on Rogue One. And you know what? There’s definitely more incoming.

We cannot wait to see what Disney does with all of its titles. There are so many possibilities for spinoffs and have been for so many years, and finally, Disney has a platform for it. Time to jump on a VPN before 12 November (when the service launches overseas).
