So you want to get your hands on a Forza game but don’t want to pay for it? Funny thing, Microsoft’s just made that happen with the launch of Forza Street, a new free-to-play racing title for Windows 10, Android and iOS. The desktop version of the game? Yeah, that’s available now.
Based on the brief section of gameplay seen in the announcement trailer (below), we’re looking at a street-racing title in the vein of Need for Speed: Most Wanted‘s drag-race sections (specifically), parts of NFS: Underground, and a little Midnight Club. All suitably Forza-flavoured, we’re quite sure.
The gameplay focus is on optimising braking, acceleration and boosting, using simplified controls. That’s got to work quite well for mobile platforms. In common with other Forza games, players can get into quick races, dabble in a more substantial story mode, and collect and upgrade an entire stable of awesome vehicles. Being a free-to-play title, we’re expecting to find more than a few microtransactions in-game. The big question is how Microsoft has executed them. Guess we’ll have to check and see.
If you’re a PC gamer and want to get your race on, you can snag the Windows 10 version of the racer here. If you’re thinking of taking the show on the road instead, there’s going to be a bit of a wait for the mobile versions. The Android and iOS versions will drop before year-end — which is awfully vague. Once we learn more, you’ll be the first to know.
