You read that headline correctly — Energizer, the company best known for rabbits and batteries (not in that order), will be launching a range of smartphones at Mobile World Congress (MWC). And, unlike companies that just dip their toe into smartphone manufacture, they’re going all-in. How else do you explain the fact that they’re showing off a range of 26 devices at MWC 2019?
The company has four different ranges in mind, divided into Power Max, Energy, Hardcase, and Ultimate devices. Not all of them will be smartphones, which might justify the number of devices being revealed. Energizer’s Energy and Hardcase range will consist of feature phones (the bulk of available models), while Power Max will focus on battery life. Seriously, the Power Max headliner will pack a humongous 18,000mAh battery, followed by a 16,000mAh option.
The Ultimate range…? That’s the company’s top-of-the-line effort, consisting of six different devices. There’s also supposed to be a folding smartphone in here somewhere but, like the Power Max devices, we don’t know what it looks like yet.
Really? Yes, really
Energizer’s Ultimate U620S Pop will be a 6.2in smartphone with a Helio P70 processor, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and a 3,200mAh battery. Fairly standard, as Android phones go, but it’s going to incorporate a pop-up front camera, negating the need to put the 16MP/2MP dual camera arrangement in a notch. The rear will host triple camera sensors, a 16MP main, a 5MP secondary, and a 2MP depth sensor.
There’s an Energizer Ultimate U630S Pop on the way too, with a slightly larger battery but with reductions elsewhere. A Helio P22, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage go with a 3,500mAh battery, and matching dual front and rear cameras (16MP + 2MP — the front also in a pop-up system). There are also U650S, U620S, and U570S models on the cards, with varying specs. They’ve got 6.5in, 6.2in, and 5.7in screens respectively and lower specs than the headliners. They’re also eschewing the pop-up front camera sensors in favour of V-shaped notches up front.
