If you’ve seen the History Channel show (that’s not all that historically correct) Vikings, you’ll probably recognise the leading man — king of the Vikings — Ragnar Lothbrok.
Travis Fimmel, the man behind the face tattoos and hair braids, will be attending Comic Con Africa in September. For those who don’t know, Travis is originally from Australia (although he nails that Norse accent very well indeed). His attendance was confirmed earlier today by event organisers Reed Exhibitions Africa. All that’s missing now is Lagertha, queen of Kattegat.
Travis is best known for his role as Ragnar in four seasons of Vikings, but he also starred in the lead in the Warcraft movie. He was most recently seen in a supporting role in the film Lean On Pete, opposite Chloe Sevigny, Steve Buscemi and Charlie Plummer.
Vikings premiered in 2013 and was filmed in Ireland. The series is a semi-fictitious look at the mighty Norsemen who raided, traded and explored during the Middle Ages. Travis plays a character loosely based on Ragnar Lodbrok or Lothbrok (depending where you’re getting your history), a legendary Viking leader who (in the Vikings series) is frustrated by the unadventurous tendencies of his local chieftain and decides to pillage new lands on his own. The new land in question, Britain, doesn’t really know how to handle the new visitors, though…
Comic Con Africa is the first opportunity for fans to really see/meet some of their favourite characters, and although Comic Con recently announced that Jason Momoa won’t be attending anymore, we feel Fimmel is a good replacement nevertheless.
The convention will run from 14 – 16 September at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit & International Convention Centre. You should probably secure some tickets and plan your stay (if you’re from out of town) — time is running out.
