If you’re not looking forward to the Lego Batman Movie then you should go and watch a few trailers and fix that. Right now. We’ll wait. Then, and only then, will you be able to appreciate this Lego build which replicates the Batmobile from the upcoming animated feature film. Which would be impressive any time when but it’s a life-sized creation by Chevrolet? Um, yeah…
So we’ve got a Lego Batman Lego Batmobile, except that this one is seventeen feet (5.18 metres) long and look a whopping 344,187 Lego bricks to assemble. In terms of creation time, this isn’t something that you can put together over the weekend. The design apparently took Chevy 222 hours to set up and actually assembling it took 1,833 hours. That’s… 76 full days? Wow.
The whole structure weighs in at 770kg, with each tyre weighing 45 kilograms. That’s why the Lego Batman recreation needed an internal frame which prevents it from collapsing under its own weight. Sure, you could a similar effect using super-glue but it’s just not the same, is it?
According to Chevy this impressive build is based on something called the Speedwagon (in the upcoming film) rather than the Batmobile. It amounts to the same thing, though. It belongs to the Batman and the Batman is in it? Boom, Batmobile. The whole point of it is a marketing exercise for the upcoming motion picture (which launches in South Africa on 10 February. Just sayin’) and it seems to have worked. We’re writing about it, after all.
