4K video is the coming thing, if the TV screens we’ve seen popping up everywhere for ages are any indication. But getting 4K content is still a bother, unless you’re Netflix, YouTube or certain film studios who created 4K content to promote the TV screens (Samsung, we’re looking at you) in question. But 4K might be more prolific soon.
The other video hosting service, Vimeo, has announced that their Pro users will now be able to upload their video content in 4K resolutions. That does mean that you need to give Vimeo a $200 (around R2,300) subscription fee every year in order to upload your high-res video but odds are that’s a small price to pay for some 4K.
Unfortunately there is no way for Vimeo users to stream those 4K clips and bits. That’s coming later but for the moment those Vimeo Pro users will be able to make their 4K video available to folks as a download, either free or paid-for. We might be able to finally get some 4K skateboarding videos to use to test TVs with, then.
